To celebrate James' parent decision to move to Germany, we made Schnitzel.
WITH CELERY ROOT!
Did you know that celery root is really good? And its in season here in Maine (the winter farmer's market doesnt have too much variety these days). It tastes kinda like artichoke hearts and has the texture of not-overcooked beets, approximately. It can be eaten raw, but we breaded it (egg wash, flour, egg wash, crumbs) and pan fried it (1/2 oil, about 4 minutes per side). I was skeptical because of the lack of spices, but the flavor of the celery root made my mouth water. This is not just a phrase, my mouth watered. It was good with a little yogurt, but it would have even been better with a bit of gravy and some spatzle! I am looking forward to trying real German food when we go visit. Despite their famous love of meat, there are plenty of veg restaurants listed on happycow: http://www.happycow.net/europe/germany/.Ich esse kein Fleisch, kein Hühnchen oder Fisch!
Acadia, who is at least 1/4 German, learned how to grab things a couple weeks ago.

Forget that celery root, I want to eat that baby!!!
define "at least" 1/4 German...
Such a sweet picture of Acadia and her reaching. I love this post and who takes the pictures of the food. Honestly, it looks like a page out of Gourmet Magazine.
